Day 01 : Bhubneshwar

On arrival at Bhubneshwar Airport/Railway station, transfer to the hotel. Later a half-day city tour to the Bhubneshwar temples of Rajarani, Mukteswar, Parsurameswar, Lingaraj & Brahmeswar.

Bhubaneshwar was the ancient capital of the Kalinga Empire and now the capital of Orissa, Bhubaneshwar's history goes back over 2000 years and was also once known as the "Cathedral of East", on account of large number of shrines, all built in the extravagant Oriya style.

Lingaraja temple was built in the 11 th century. Lingaraja Temple 's most distinctive features are its most ornately carved tower and spires that soar to a height of 54 meters. It is dedicated to Tribhuvaneshwar (Lord of Three Worlds).

Day 02 : Bhubneshwar - Puri

Drive to Puri directly OR an option to visit the Udayagiri & Khandagiri caves, Dhauli and Pipali, enroute. On arrival at Puri, check into the hotel. Evening at leisure.

Udayagiri and Khandagiri - These rock-cut caves are seen on the top of Udayagiri and Khandagiri. The two-storeyed "Rani Gumpha (Queen's Cave) is the largest cave with ornate carving and the Hati Gumpha (elephant cave) has the chronicle of king Karvela carved on it. Dhauli Ashokan Rock edict is situated at Dauli. The sculped elephant atop the edict signifies the Mauryan Emperor Ashok's conversion to Buddhism after his Kalinga victory. On the Dauligiri Hill, where the great Kalinga war was fought, stands a modern monument to world peace, the Vishwa Shanti Stupa. Pipli is famous for its handicrafts known as "Appliqué work", which is the work of cutting small pieces of colorful cloth and stitching them together in the shape of animals, flowers, birds, trees and other decorative motifs.

Puri enjoys a special place of pride as one of the four Dhams or holiest Hindu pilgrimage spots in India . Lying on the shoreline of the Bay of Bengal , Puri is embraced by serene beaches. Puri is home to Lord Jagannath (Lord of the Universe), Subhadra (his sister) and Balbhadra (his brother). Life in Puri is defined by the great Jagannath Mandir and its ritualistic annual Rath Yathra.

Lord Jagannath Temple : The temple of Lord Jagannath built during the 12 th century AD by Chodaganga Deva, dominates the landscape. Being the tallest temple, (65 meters) in Orissa, it is one of the most magnificent pieces of monument in India . In front of the main gate stands a 14 sided monolithic pillar (11 meters high) called Aruna Stamba which formerly stood in front of the Sun temple and was brought to Puri during the 18 th Century AD. The eastern main entrance is guarded by 2 stone lions and is called the Lion Gate. There is a pillar crowned by an image of Garuda. The gates on the other side are flanked by statues of men on horse back, tigers and elephants respectively.

Day 03 : Puri - Konark - Puri

Day excursion to Konark.

Konark Sun Temple The crowing glory of Oriya architecture, the 13 th century Sun temple, also known as the "Black Pagoda". Built by Raja Narasimha Deva of Ganga dynasty, the temple is a pageant of human grandeur, in its perception, and even in the execution of even the finest details. It resembles a colossal chariot with 24 wheels, pulled by 7 straining horse and has a three-tiered pyramidal roof topped by a fine spire. The Sun-God's chariot also represents the seven days of the week and 24 hours of the day, in its concept.

Day 04 : Puri - Chilika Lake - Puri

Early morning proceed for a full day excursion to Chilika Lake and return to Bhubneshwar.

Chilika Lake spread over 1100 square kilometers, is India 's biggest inland lake.The shimmering blue water makes it an excellent site to have a break from the monotonous daily routine. Satpada, a scenic spot on Chilika is an ideal place for bird watching and viewing dolphins.

Day 05 : Puri - Bhubneshwar

Morning is free. Later drop to the Bhubaneswar Airport / Railway station.
